What do I.R. , night vision binoculars do?

April 30, 2009 - 10:36 pm 3 Comments

Hi all, I purchased a pair of binoculars last week. They have red coloured lenses and they state that they are I.R. and night vision.
I have tried viewing through them at night but they don’t seem to be any different to any others. Can anybody explain what these terms mean?
Tanx for reading.

if they are nightvision you will know, the image will be green and you will be able to see clearly in very low light, they will also have a power source such as battery or need charging and they will have ofcourse an on/off switch.

nightvision binoculars are very expensive probably around £300 for the cheapest and £2 – 3 grand for decent ones,

so if you bought them cheap youve been had. if you paid a lot then shouldn't you know what you are buying already before you spend this kind of money?

Will a night vision CCTV camera be able see in the dark if looking through a window?

April 30, 2009 - 10:36 pm 5 Comments

I unfortunatley live in an area where I have to have CCTV on my home, but if I mount the cameras on the outside they will be attacked by vandals. So if I buy cameras with night vision LEDs and mount them inside the windows where they are safe, will the night vision still work?

Yep they should work perfectly fine, but the LED's as others have said have a Limited range and the glass might cut down on that a bit, especially if their tinted or such, also another problem to consider is that more often than not the Infra-red LED's will reflect off the glass like visible light does and shine right back into the CCTV camera making a bright spot that can blind the camera, you might need to experiment with angling it, so it doesn't reflect back.

Is it normal to for you to be temporarily unable to see in one eye after using a Night vision monocular? ?

April 30, 2009 - 10:36 pm 1 Comment

I traded a night vision scope to someone and they are wanting to back out of the trade now, stating that when they look use the Night Vision Monocular for a few minutes, they take their eye away from the eye piece, and they are temporarily blind for about a minute in that eye. To me, this is normal, as it’s happened to me using several different night vision devices, as well as a thermal imager monocular. He won’t believe me that it’s normal for it to happen, and he’s now holding up our deal by waiting for a representative from the company that makes the monocular to contact him. What should I do?

Yes, it is normal. All night vision scopes work by dramatically amplifying the intensity of even very low light images. Being a monocular scope, the observer will get a significantly brightened view of the world only in the viewing eye. The non viewing eye will remain dark adapted while the viewing eye will loose its dark adaptation of the retinal pigments. When the monocular is brought away from the eye, therefore, the viewing eye will see very poorly in a true darkened environment until it has time to readapt to a dark environment.

Household infrared's for night vision goggles?

I want to make some night vision lights so my camera can se in the dark. I know that a TV Remotes bulb used to change the channel can be seen (something i just found out). I only have two remotes thought. Are there the other items that are in houses that i don't know about the have infared lights on or in them, and can i make it big enough to see a wide area on the camera.

If I can help in any way then I will. I own a highly trafficked night vision site and if you need anything then I am happy to give you 35% discount. Just make sure you let me know before you order – that way i can arrange your discount – thanks. Chris Canos.

Why are enemy snipers so good at getting away?

April 30, 2009 - 10:36 pm 12 Comments

American are being shot by Iraqi snipers, and Americans only act retroactively.
Why arent our snipers undercover seeking their snipers?
All it takes is thermal imaging/night vision goggles, and setting up a perimeter farther out. Snipers are obvious even to the untrained eye.

And dont try to tell me Americans are too obvious. Delta Force and Navy SEALS are highly trained to operate as foreign subjects, including fluency. See: Richard Marcinko, 'Rogue Warrior' in which a small group of SEALS were able to pass themselves as locals in Beirut, even obtaining information sought after by US intelligence for months.

And to those who think sniping is cowardice, I suggest a refresher course on American military tactics 1776-1783 particularly, 'Battle of Lexington and Concord'.

So why are we unable to adapt, and place our snipers in position to snipe them? Is our military really so top heavy with approvals and permissions and decision making channels?

First off, you have no idea what you're talking about. I've been a Scout/Sniper in the USMC for the last 14 years…In the Corps for the last 19. As far as being hit by enemy snipers…we aren't, in fact the insurgency lacks the sufficent weapons and proficeint personnel to perform sniping attacks. We are being hit with IED's a totally different animal all together. More like guerilla warfare, where an innocent person/vehicle sometimes women and young children/teens get close to our personnel and blow themselves up. If we shoot before confirmation then we're baby killers, if we wait one millisecond too long we're toast. If you knew anything about snipers you'd know that there has to be cover to snipe from sometimes in the form of buildings sometimes in the form of biological cover. In Iraq we have neither when out on patrol.

Snipers take out a hard or confirmed target and we sometimes take weeks to get where we're going…the types of attacks happening to our troops in Iraq are fly bys, spontaneous and random. These are impossible to defend by snipers.

What the viewing difference between generation 1 and generation 2 night vision equipment?

April 30, 2009 - 10:36 pm 4 Comments

The new equipment is more refined we ahve had longer to make improvements. The 1gen night vision were big and bulky adn the images were very grainy. The 2nd gen stuff works a lot better.

night vision / infrared: ufo fleet or migratory birds???

April 28, 2009 - 10:24 pm 25 Comments

filmed 11/30/08 in fremont, ca

**UPDATE 2/5/09**

after having filmed more of these similar objects in the sky, i am still unsure as to what these could be. there is a possibility that these are simply migrating birds but i don’t know enough about migratory bird behavior to rule that out.

i’ll remain open to either possibility (ufo/birds) until i have more conclusive footage/evidence.

more videos coming soon…
