You probably saw for yourself those movies with lots of soldiers going through the night, seeing everything in green light with the help of their gadgets. Weird gadgets on their helmets lighting up the area around them, and allowing them to fight even during nights without a moon present. While you usually see them only in movies, these gadgets can be bought by anyone.

If your kid is fascinated by these gadgets, you can find the night vision infrared stealth goggles in stores. This is the version for children of the much more advanced goggles worn by US troops.

They’re very cheap considering they’re used for night vision, they consume little power and they will probably be one of the most wanted items this Christmas.

These night vision goggles are made out of heavy duty plastic and they can be secured with headstraps and stabilized with the help of lateral jaw straps. They can be abused quite a bit during night time conditions, and you can do custom fitting on them by using adjustable straps.

They’re almost as big as the ones soldiers use and they let everyone see up to a distance of 50 feet with them in night-time conditions. Night time hide and seek anyone?

They are powered by AA batteries, 5 of them, and they allow you to do all kinds of activities during the night, as long as you can do it in the green light it provides. You can even use them to study the life of animals, as they wake up and start their activities in the mornings.

Kids can even use these night vision goggles in the event of power outages to help you find candles or flashlights, to light up the house. You can call it a mission if you will. You don’t need to worry about flashlights with dead batteries that you forgot to replace. The goggles can easily help you in cases like this.

You can even use these goggles to help teach your kid to hunt during the night, as long as you supervise him of course. They can easily stalk small animals during the night time, since they can see up to 50 feet with these goggles.

Is normal 8mm or 35mm film sensitive to infrared light?

October 21, 2009 - 1:03 pm 1 Comment

I was wondering if i could use night vision goggles, which work by infrared light, to help me in the darkroom changing film. would shining infrared light on this film ruin it like all visible, normal light?
what effect would it have on photo paper?

No infra red won’t hurt panchromatic film. It is not sensitive to the infrared spectrum. E6 labs use night goggles and infra red lights in their processing rooms all the time.

Much less trouble in the longrun though, is to learn to load the reels in total darkness.
