4. The public is being misled through propaganda to assume CO2 is like a sheet of plastic holding in heat.
CO2 can only absorb 8% of radiation frequencies available (No one disputes this.), and only about 1% of the heat leaves the earth as radiation—the other 99% being conduction, convection and evaporation. NASA says its 41%, not 1%, but there is no agreement, and Night Vision Equipment shows there is very little infrared radiation given off by normal temperature matter.

Let me add to this comment as one questioner seemed offended by it and the answer also relates to the current question. A narrowly focused education that does not interact with other disciplines to give a more balanced view of global and system processes can and will lead to judgement errors that produce inaccurate conclusions such as AGW. So it is several factors interacting that the climatologists are only seeing an after the fact side effect and blaming what they see on this minor item while missing completely the major causal effect of the sun.

Because all the major warming of the last 200 years took place before 1940 and the Co2 increase took place after 1940 as the world was dropping off into the cool period that lasted from the mid 40s through the late 70s with a short heat spike in the early 60s all with higher Co2 levels just as historical and core data shows. Co2 always follows warm periods and is not a cause of the heating but a side effect of the heating. As long as the AGW faithful continue to reject real science in favor of a religious voodoo science then skeptics will continue to be puzzled and amused by the strange responses given that do not hold up to even light scrutiny of people with broad based education’s in real life disciplines.

Global warming is a con game for economic and political power by a group of politicians around the world. It has not happened, will not happen and cannot happen and anybody with even an average high school education should know better or our schools are in worse shape than I thought they were. The sea level rise happened 11,000 years ago when the ice age ended and the mile high glaciers melted. Global warming or climate change as they now call it is on about the same level of truth as the Nigerian email scam or those emails supposedly from your bank wanting you to reenter your security information so they can clean you out. So be careful if you accept the AGW scam you are prime meat for any of the rash of identity theft email scams out there.

Now that Wall Street has delivered us an economic version of 9/11, what will this mean to your business?  Will the mess on Wall Street hurt us the way 9/11 did, when some markets dropped almost  30%?   If this happens again will your industry collapse and die?

I saw a piece on television the other night that said when things are down, good companies move forward.   Competent companies find ways to grab more of the market share.  I firmly believe this is true.  Those who strive to get better when times are hard, get better.  

 

Here are eight ways to make this happen for your company:

 

1.       Fire up your sales effort.  We’ve seen it time and time again, when times get tough advertising budgets are slashed, travel is postponed and sales people are laid off.  What a great time to hit the road and visit the customers of those companies.  Show strength by talking about a positive future for their company, customers and potential customers.  You will find that they’ll prefer to do business with your company, rather than those that are cutting back.   

2.       Capitalize on your company’s strength.  If your company is doing well, then use that to your advantage. If you’ve been successful enough to not worry about your line of credit, now is the time to point that out.  Let your customers know you are financially strong.

3.       Build your team. I still cannot figure out how companies can justify letting good sales people go when they are worried about business.  But they do, so take advantage of it.  Make your company stronger and snap up the good sales and operations people now available.

4.       Buy some equipment. During times like these your vendors tend to get worried.  Equipment vendors in particular can be hurt by a shaky economy.  Consequently, they will be ready to make some great deals. There is never a better time to buy equipment than in a down economy.  The discounts will fly and payment plans will be favorable.   

5.       Cut new deals on consumables. The more Wall Street scares the populace, the more companies you do business with will want to make deals.  There’s never a better time to re-negotiate that raw materials contract, then during a down economy.  Actually it’s good for vendors as well.  At least it’s better than the alternative, which is not selling anything at all.  So work with them for your mutual benefit.

6.       This is also a good time to cut deals with customers.  Now is the time to win new business away from the other guy and offer strategic pricing to win over that customer you’ve been after for so long.   But first, make sure you do this with companies that have the kind of business you want and that will help your company.

7.       Develop a new marketing plan.  Craft a strong, positive message about your fiscal strength and vision for the future.  This kind of message stands out in a sea of despair.  It will also help position your company as the one that’s doing well while others are faltering.   This will help attract new business, because you will represent the company that’s going to be around for a while.

8.       And finally show great confidence (not cockiness) in everything that you do.  You want people to know that you are in this race for the long haul and they can count on you.  And let’s face it, it’s not that much of a risk to be confident, because if you have done everything right you have everything to be confident about.

What’s interesting about so many of the industries that took a pounding during the post 9/11 economic decline, is almost all of them have come back.  Just a few years later they’re doing much better than they were before 9/11.  In fact some markets grew because of 9/11!

Remember, markets cannot be measured in days, weeks or months, they need to be measured in years.  If history repeats itself — which it usually does — then the next few years will also show strong growth.

So tomorrow morning get to work, make it happen and view the future with clear eyed optimism and confidence.  You and your company will be just fine.

Richard Reid, December 2001. A British citizen and self-professed follower of Osama bin Laden, Reid hid explosives inside his shoes before boarding a flight from Paris to Miami and attempted to light the fuse with a match. If detonated, the explosives would have damaged the plane. Reid was caught in the act and apprehended on board the plane by the flight attendants and passengers. FBI officials took Reid into custody after the plane made an emergency landing at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

In 2003, Reid was found guilty on charges of terrorism, and a U.S. federal court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Jose Padilla, May 2002. U.S. officials arrested Padilla in May 2002 at O’Hare Airport in Chicago as he returned to the United States from Pakistan. He was initially charging as an enemy combatant and for planning to use a "dirty bomb" (an explosive laced with radioactive material) in an attack against America.[5] Prior to his conviction, Padilla brought a case against the federal government claiming that he had been denied the right of habeas corpus (the right of an individual to petition against unlawful imprisonment). In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court found that the case against him had been filed improperly.In 2005, the government indicted Padilla for conspiring with Islamic terrorist groups.

In August 2007, Padilla was found guilty by a civilian jury after a three-month trial. He was later sentenced by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida to 17 years and four months in prison.

Lackawanna Six, September 2002. When the FBI arrested Sahim Alwan, Yahya Goba, Yasein Taher, Faysal Galab, Shafal Mosed, and Mukhtar al-Bakri, the press dubbed them the "Lackawanna Six," the "Buffalo Six," or the "Buffalo Cell." Five of the six had been born and raised in Lackawanna, New York. These six American citizens of Yemeni descent were arrested for conspiring with terrorist groups. They had stated that they were going to Pakistan to attend a religious training camp, but instead attended an al-Qaeda jihadist camp.

All six pleaded guilty in 2003 to providing support to al-Qaeda. Goba and al-Bakri were sentenced to 10 years in prison, Taher and Mosed to eight years, Alwan to seven and a half years, and Galab to seven years.

Iyman Faris, May 2003. Faris is a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Kashmir and lived in Columbus, Ohio. He was arrested for conspiring to use blowtorches to collapse the Brooklyn Bridge. The New York City Police Department learned of the plot and increased police surveillance around the bridge. Faced with the additional security, Faris and his superiors decided to cancel the attack.

Faris pleaded guilty to conspiracy and providing material support to al-Qaeda and was later sentenced in federal district court to 20 years, the maximum allowed under his plea agreement.

Virginia Jihad Network, June 2003. In Alexandria, Virginia, 11 men were arrested for weapons counts and for violating the Neutrality Acts, which prohibit U.S. citizens and residents from attacking countries with which the United States is at peace. Four of the 11 men pleaded guilty. Upon further investigation, the remaining seven were indicated on additional charges of conspiring to support terrorist organizations. They were found to have connections with al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Lashkar-i-Taiba, a terrorist organization that targets the Indian government. The authorities stated that the Virginia men had used paintball games to train and prepare for battle. The group had also acquired surveillance and Night Vision Equipment and wireless video cameras.

Ali al-Timimi, the spiritual leader of the group, was found guilty of soliciting individuals to assault the United States and sentenced to life in prison. Ali Asad Chandia received 15 years for supporting Lashkar-i-Taiba, but maintains his innocence. Randoll Todd Royer, Ibrahim al-Hamdi, Yong Ki Kwon, Khwaja Mahmood Hasan, Muhammed Aatique, and Donald T. Surratt pleaded guilty and were sentenced to prison terms. Masoud Khan, Seifullah Chapman, and Hammad Adur-Raheem were found guilty at trial and later sentenced.

Dhiren Barot, August 2004. Members of a terrorist cell led by Dhiren Barot were arrested for plotting to attack the New York Stock Exchange and other financial institutions in New York, Washington, and Newark, New Jersey. They were later accused of planning attacks in England. The plots included a "memorable black day of terror" that would have included detonating a dirty bomb. A July 2004 police raid on Barot’s house in Pakistan discovered a number of incriminating files on a laptop computer, including instructions for building car bombs.

Dhiren Barot pleaded guilty and was convicted in the United Kingdom for conspiracy to to commit mass murder and sentenced to 40 years. However, in May 2007, his se

James Elshafay and Shahawar Matin Siraj were arrested for plotting to bomb a subway station near Madison Square Garden in New York City before the Republican National Convention.[20] An undercover detective from New York City Police Department’s Intelligence Division infiltrated the group, providing information to authorities, and later testified against Elshafay and Siraj.[21]

Siraj was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Elshafay, a U.S. citizen, pleaded guilty and received a lighter, five-year sentence for testifying against his co-conspirator.[22]
Levar Haley Washington, Gregory Vernon Patterson, Hammad Riaz Samana, and Kevin James, August 2005. The members of the group were arrested in Los Angeles and charged with conspiring to attack National Guard facilities, synagogues, and other targets in the Los Angeles area.
Michael C. Reynolds, December 2005. Michael C. Reynolds was arrested by the FBI and charged with involvement in a plot to blow up a Wyoming natural gas refinery; the Transcontinental Pipeline, a natural-gas pipeline from the Gulf Coast to New York and New Jersey; and a Standard Oil refinery in New Jersey.[29] He was arrested while trying to pick up a $40,000 payment for planning the attack.[30] Shannen Rossmiller, his purported contact, was a Montana judge who was working with the FBI. Seven men were arrested in Miami and Atlanta for plotting to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago, followed by FBI offices and other government buildings around the country.
