Many nights in the backcountry are far from dark. A bright moon and a sky full of stars can throw off enough light to allow for reading a book, but add cloud cover, mountains or trees and it gets dark awfully fast. When you need to see in the dark, you have two choices – you either turn on a light, or use one of the many available pieces of night vision equipment.

Night Vision Equipment can be the ultimate backcountry toy. Like choosing many other types of technology, choosing the correct device is all about how you are going to use it. When most people think of night vision capabilities, they think about spy movies, the military or law enforcement – applications where it is vital for the good guys to see without being seen by the bad guys. A drop in pricing over the past few years has made night vision equipment affordable for campers, hunters, hikers and a wide variety of other outdoor enthusiasts.

However, high-end devices used for specialized purposes remain quite expensive. There are two broad categories of night vision devices. Image Enhancement devices collect small amounts of light and amplify them to the point where the human eye can observe the object. Thermal Imaging devices capture the high end of the infrared light spectrum which is emitted as heat by objects.

Image Enhancement devices will provide a much crisper image with detail while Thermal Imaging devices show regions of heat. Currently, five Generations of Night Vision Equipment exist. Generations 0 and 1 are less expensive and typically produce a poor image quality. Generations 2, 3 and 4 have increasingly better image quality and an equally increasing price to match.

Applications for night vision equipment are actually quite diverse. They include but are not limited to: military, law enforcement, hunting, wildlife observation, surveillance, security, navigation, hidden-object detection, spelunking and entertainment. These devices can be found on helicopters, rifles, camcorders, cameras, boats….just about anywhere.

A new craze found at up-scale gatherings is called “A Dinner in the Dark Party” where guests wear night vision devices throughout their dining experience!

Many outdoor enthusiasts are beginning to discover the wonderful world that can be found after darkness falls in the backcountry. If you like to camp, hike or hunt, you will find the right night vision piece of equipment will really enhance your experience and make it a lot more enjoyable.

Out of all the binoculars available in the market today, the most exciting, the most in demand and the most versatile set, are night vision binoculars. If you ask anyone why, they will not have an immediate answer for it – maybe the reason is actually embedded into our subconscious, i.e. the fact that you will crave for anything that gives you the power to do that other normal beings/peers cannot do. That is the main idea behind the fact the night vision binoculars is indeed one of the most popular device. First and foremost the night vision binoculars are a lot of fun; to be able to see what you want even in the darkness of the night is very thrilling. It gives a child-like enthusiasm and helps in having a lot of family fun. This is definitely a must-have during your camp days. Try to make a fort if you are in the woods and watch the scenery at night from there. It will be an unforgettable experience.

The fact that you can see during the night with the help of this device is a great boon – but there are other uses than that. Suppose you are in a camp, or you are traveling or you are simply lost in a vast unknown territory, the night vision binoculars can save you get closer to help. In civilian times, possessing night vision binoculars can only help you at these types of things. However, during war this night vision helped many people – civilians and military personnel – to escape the clutches of the enemy.

Today, children play, imagining this aspect, using the night vision binoculars to simulate such situations whereby they have fun and they also learn many things. Most amateur people and children use the first generation binoculars. This is the first level of the binoculars hierarchy. The second-generation binoculars are much costlier and are usually available with law enforcement bodies (police, coast guards, etc). This type of binoculars will definitely give sharper images. Then, there are the third and fourth-generation Night Vision Binoculars, which are excellent in their functions; accordingly, they are pretty expensive as well.

When light strikes an object, its atoms react and emit a very low frequency infrared wavelength, more similar to heat than to visible light. Night Vision Security Cameras are extremely sensitive to these thermal-infrared emissions and amplify them, converting the measurement of the invisible wavelength into an image on your monitor. This type of Night Vision is known as Thermal Imaging. While Thermal Imaging is great for detecting people or motion in near absolute darkness, most of the cameras sold here use a more practical kind of Night Vision known as Image Enhancement or Image Intensification. These devices contain a lens that senses light at a slightly higher frequency than thermal-infrared, anywhere from the more reflective infrared wavelengths to the barely visible red wavelengths. The light’s photons are converted to electrons and amplified through a component called the photocathode. The electrons are then converted back into photons to produce a strong visible image on your camera’s phosphor screen.

I’ve heard that if a CCTV camera that operates on a photoelectric sensor is exposed to infrared LEDs, it will be overwhelmed and will present the image as an opaque white light. Is there any way this type of interference can be done with night vision or infrared cameras, and if so, how?

Are you planning an illegal activity for which you need to disable CCTV? I cant tnink of any other reason anyone would want to know how to disable the equipment. Im surprised anyone would offer tips on how to do this. Advice on how to do things like this are how events like 9-11 are made possible.
