Best night vision to view stars?

When I was in Iraq I had a chance to use he military issued night vision goggles in a very clear sky not hazed by city lights or the usual dust. I could see meteor showers with the goggles but not with the naked eye.
What would be the best commercial monocular night vision goggle, or camera to view stars that would be less than 500 dollars?
You just need the newest generation. A generation 2 is better than a generation 1. A generation 3 is better than a generation 2. I think they’re up to 4 or five now.
