How long can i see in Binoculars of 60X35?

March 24, 2010 - 8:01 am 2 Comments

I want to buy Binoculars w/Night Vision, but I do not know which one to buy so that I can see at a maximum distance so Please tell me which specifications I have to choose like 60X35 or lower or higher?

In case you don’t know, let me explain the meaning of the numbers. The first number is the magnification. In your example you used 60, in this case things would look 60 times closer. An object 60 feet away would appear as 1 foot away. The last number is the size of the objective lense. In your example 35, which would be 35 mm across. The larger the objective lense the more light it can collect. 12x is generally considered the max power that can be hand held [no tri pod] and that is hard for most people to hold steady enough to obtain a sharp image. Next comes the quality of the binoculars. All binoculars are far from being equal even though they may have the same power and objective lense size. A real good set of 12 x 50 night vison binoculars start out at around $800. and up.

How does night vision on a camera work ?

March 24, 2010 - 8:01 am 4 Comments

When light strikes an object, its atoms react and emit a very low frequency infrared wavelength, more similar to heat than to visible light. Night Vision Security Cameras are extremely sensitive to these thermal-infrared emissions and amplify them, converting the measurement of the invisible wavelength into an image on your monitor. This type of Night Vision is known as Thermal Imaging. While Thermal Imaging is great for detecting people or motion in near absolute darkness, most of the cameras sold here use a more practical kind of Night Vision known as Image Enhancement or Image Intensification. These devices contain a lens that senses light at a slightly higher frequency than thermal-infrared, anywhere from the more reflective infrared wavelengths to the barely visible red wavelengths. The light’s photons are converted to electrons and amplified through a component called the photocathode. The electrons are then converted back into photons to produce a strong visible image on your camera’s phosphor screen.

would ir goggles allow me to see at night if something was illuminated by an ir flashlight?

wearing ‘infrared goggles’ at night, if i were to shine an ir led flashlight on something would i be able to see it throught the goggles (basically night vision)? can you realy see ir light throught ir goggles?

yes, that’s what their meant for, they were the first night vision goggles.

what the best binoculars out right now i mean the works night vision and infrared?

I would say you should be asking the government, not Yahoo Answers.

Can you recommend a wireless camera w/ night vision?

March 17, 2010 - 11:26 am 1 Comment

Any web sites that sell them that you prefer? Also any personal experiences with one.

There are P&S cameras with WiFi (Nikon)

http://www.dpreview.com

There are camcorders with IR and LUX 0 features (Sony)

There are no P&S or camcorders with both … Yet

Any ideas what this could be?

so i have been to the eye docter for this and she cant seem to figure it out and now i have to go to a specialist.

i have double vision but its not:
monocular double vision-its doesnt matter if i cover and eye or not its still there
keratoconus-ive had the test done and she even asked another doctor and they both said no.

she has checked everything she can possible think of and nothing adds up to what i describe:
i see an extra image (a blurry one) above the actual image. this mainly occurs in high contrast type things. especially at night. when my headlights reflect off of signs and lines on the road i see two of them. i dont have diabetes so i know thats not it ive had that checked to. im 17 and it seems like its getting worse everyday im starting to see it more and more during the day. other than that my eyes are healthy other than a very minor astigmatism.

does anyone else know what this could be?

I have this problem as well, I have a corneal dystropy. It creates what is called a ‘halo’ effect around your eye resuling in distorted and double images. Make sure you are seeing an actual eye doctor. and MD not a DO, for such a serious issue you want to see a doctor who is associated with a hospital and more advanced training. Good Luck….healthy vision is imp.

Is this right? Material to go against alarmist from a skeptic!?

1. There is no scientifically valid mechanism for CO2 causing global warming.
Carbon dioxide absorbs all radiation available to it in about ten meters. More CO2 only shortens the distance, which is not an increase in temperature. In other words, the first 20% of the CO2 in the air does most of what CO2 does, and it doesn’t do much. (Heinz Hug)
2. Oceans regulate the amount of CO2 in the air through absorption equilibrium.
Equilibrium is rapid and total as indicated by many sources of evidence. One, the graph for CO2 in the air is an extremely precise line. If nothing were regulating, it would vary wildly. Two, if equilibrium were not established, oceans would be absorbing or losing CO2 at a high rate, yet no significant change occurs.

3. Water vapor would swamp any effects by CO2, if greenhouse gasses were really creating global warming.
Water vapor has three times as much bandwidth for absorption peaks, and there are about 33 times as many water vapor molecules in the atmosphere as CO2 molecules, which means 100 times as much of a supposed greenhouse effect. And water vaporizes and precipitates so rapidly that it would be creating billions of times as much change in temperature as CO2, if the same logic were applied to it. Water Vapor

4. The public is being misled through propaganda to assume CO2 is like a sheet of plastic holding in heat.
CO2 can only absorb 8% of radiation frequencies available (No one disputes this.), and only about 1% of the heat leaves the earth as radiation—the other 99% being conduction, convection and evaporation. NASA says its 41%, not 1%, but there is no agreement, and Night Vision Equipment shows there is very little infrared radiation given off by normal temperature matter.

5. The IPCC is a bunch of political hacks who railroad the process.
It’s not what science consists of. They start at the end point which they want and then try to rationalize it through computer models which override the real science and evidence.

There is a shortage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for plant growth, because alkaline oceans absorb it and only release a small amount. The atmosphere is only 0.04% CO2.

When an ice age begins, global Warming occurs exactly as it is doing now. Heated oceans cause increased evaporation followed by precipitation. Eventually, increased snowfall will reflect away solar energy and trigger a cool-down.

The sun’s energy goes through the atmosphere and strikes the earth’s surface.

claimed heat due to atmosphere — 33°C

95-99% due to various things — 31.4°C

1-5% due to infrared radiation from earth’s surface — 1.65°C

8% of infrared bandwidth available to CO2 — 0.13°C

3% of CO2 produced by humans — 0.0039°C

5% of absorption "unsaturated" for global warming — 0.0002°C

claimed global warming — 0.6°C

Explanations — Crunching the Numbers

It’s actually 220×10-12 °C

This means carbon dioxide cannot trap radiant energy near the surface of the earth. To get around this, an obfuscated mechanism is contrived for heat leaving the atmosphere. But it is a miniscule effect in the stratosphere, with little influence over the lower atmosphere.

I’m not even sure my self but it seems pretty right to me

Let me add to this comment as one questioner seemed offended by it and the answer also relates to the current question. A narrowly focused education that does not interact with other disciplines to give a more balanced view of global and system processes can and will lead to judgement errors that produce inaccurate conclusions such as AGW. So it is several factors interacting that the climatologists are only seeing an after the fact side effect and blaming what they see on this minor item while missing completely the major causal effect of the sun.

Because all the major warming of the last 200 years took place before 1940 and the Co2 increase took place after 1940 as the world was dropping off into the cool period that lasted from the mid 40s through the late 70s with a short heat spike in the early 60s all with higher Co2 levels just as historical and core data shows. Co2 always follows warm periods and is not a cause of the heating but a side effect of the heating. As long as the AGW faithful continue to reject real science in favor of a religious voodoo science then skeptics will continue to be puzzled and amused by the strange responses given that do not hold up to even light scrutiny of people with broad based education’s in real life disciplines.

Global warming is a con game for economic and political power by a group of politicians around the world. It has not happened, will not happen and cannot happen and anybody with even an average high school education should know better or our schools are in worse shape than I thought they were. The sea level rise happened 11,000 years ago when the ice age ended and the mile high glaciers melted. Global warming or climate change as they now call it is on about the same level of truth as the Nigerian email scam or those emails supposedly from your bank wanting you to reenter your security information so they can clean you out. So be careful if you accept the AGW scam you are prime meat for any of the rash of identity theft email scams out there.

Eight Ways to Make Your Business Stronger in Tough Times: What to Do When Business Gets Slow

March 17, 2010 - 10:36 am No Comments

By Dan Beaulieu

Now that Wall Street has delivered us an economic version of 9/11, what will this mean to your business?  Will the mess on Wall Street hurt us the way 9/11 did, when some markets dropped almost  30%?   If this happens again will your industry collapse and die?

Of course not.  Yes, it could slow things down for a while.  Your industry may endure a vigorous session of Pac man — but in the words of Gloria Gaynor – I/it/we will survive.  But you can do more than just survive in hard times. You can use them to your advantage.

I saw a piece on television the other night that said when things are down, good companies move forward.   Competent companies find ways to grab more of the market share.  I firmly believe this is true.  Those who strive to get better when times are hard, get better.

Here are eight ways to make this happen for your company:

1.       Fire up your sales effort.  We’ve seen it time and time again, when times get tough advertising budgets are slashed, travel is postponed and sales people are laid off.  What a great time to hit the road and visit the customers of those companies.  Show strength by talking about a positive future for their company, customers and potential customers.  You will find that they’ll prefer to do business with your company, rather than those that are cutting back.

2.       Capitalize on your company’s strength.  If your company is doing well, then use that to your advantage. If you’ve been successful enough to not worry about your line of credit, now is the time to point that out.  Let your customers know you are financially strong.

3.       Build your team. I still cannot figure out how companies can justify letting good sales people go when they are worried about business.  But they do, so take advantage of it.  Make your company stronger and snap up the good sales and operations people now available.

4.       Buy some equipment. During times like these your vendors tend to get worried.  Equipment vendors in particular can be hurt by a shaky economy.  Consequently, they will be ready to make some great deals. There is never a better time to buy equipment than in a down economy.  The discounts will fly and payment plans will be favorable.

5.       Cut new deals on consumables. The more Wall Street scares the populace, the more companies you do business with will want to make deals.  There’s never a better time to re-negotiate that raw materials contract, then during a down economy.  Actually it’s good for vendors as well.  At least it’s better than the alternative, which is not selling anything at all.  So work with them for your mutual benefit.

6.       This is also a good time to cut deals with customers.  Now is the time to win new business away from the other guy and offer strategic pricing to win over that customer you’ve been after for so long.   But first, make sure you do this with companies that have the kind of business you want and that will help your company.

7.       Develop a new marketing plan.  Craft a strong, positive message about your fiscal strength and vision for the future.  This kind of message stands out in a sea of despair.  It will also help position your company as the one that’s doing well while others are faltering.   This will help attract new business, because you will represent the company that’s going to be around for a while.

8.       And finally show great confidence (not cockiness) in everything that you do.  You want people to know that you are in this race for the long haul and they can count on you.  And let’s face it, it’s not that much of a risk to be confident, because if you have done everything right you have everything to be confident about.

What’s interesting about so many of the industries that took a pounding during the post 9/11 economic decline, is almost all of them have come back.  Just a few years later they’re doing much better than they were before 9/11.  In fact some markets grew because of 9/11!

Remember, markets cannot be measured in days, weeks or months, they need to be measured in years.  If history repeats itself — which it usually does — then the next few years will also show strong growth.

So tomorrow morning get to work, make it happen and view the future with clear eyed optimism and confidence.  You and your company will be just fine.

Your Security is in Your Hands Now

March 17, 2010 - 10:36 am 24 Comments

While we are living in a period of unparalleled prosperity, we face many challenges. Globalization has brought wealth and lifted millions out of poverty, but the financial crisis has thrown the world economy into disarray. In the United States unemployment and home foreclosures have made once prosperous and safe neighborhoods a hotbed for crime. We need to remain ever vigilant in these tough times to protect our valuables and our loved ones. Security surveillance systems, which are necessary even in good times, are now essential in these times of uncertainty.

There are many sites on the web that can assist you in choosing a security camera for your home or your business establishment. These cameras come in different shapes and sizes and all of them use the latest technology available. You can choose from the simple two camera security system to the more advanced wireless security camera systems. Other cameras like outdoor cameras, bullet cameras, night vision cameras, hidden cameras etc. are also available on the net. Other advanced security items like security DVR cards, surveillance monitors, and security camera accessories are also available. This equipment comes in many different shapes and sizes, depending upon the area or the building that you want to secure.

Quality security cameras are at the heart of a quality security system. Make sure you buy from a provider that will stand behind their product and allow you to return the product if not satisfied. And while security systems are expensive, there is no need to overpay, even 8 Camera Security systems can be had for under $1000. A quality security system will provide you with peace of mind and protect your valuables and loved ones, nothing is more important.

Nature Cams… How to Share Your Wildlife With the World

March 17, 2010 - 10:36 am No Comments

Who is living in your backyard? You might be surprised. Anyone who has ever hung a bird feeder from a tree branch has experienced the delight of watching our natural neighbors as they make their daily rounds. People who live in high-rise apartments and condos or in areas where a bird feeder is not possible have been missing this simple pleasure… until now.

A few years ago the introduction of inexpensive “web cams” made it possible for those of us with computers to capture video and share the results with others. More recently, miniature video cameras, some packed with features like color, infra-red night vision and audio, are so small that they can be placed inside a bird house. Imagine watching as the eggs hatch and the young chicks start peeping and demanding food. These cameras come equipped with 100 feet of cord that jacks right into your television. You can forget the binoculars.

Hospital patients, those living in nursing homes, even office workers can now experience the sense of freedom that comes from “being outside”, even when they are shut in.

But, if you think “nature cams” are only for bird watchers, think again. As evening approaches and the birds go to roost a new and more exotic group of neighbors moves in. My nature cam, the Gray Fox Cam is the Winner of an EarthCam’s TOP 10 CAMS Award. Go check it out. You will be amazed at what you might see. My nightly visitors include Gray Fox (we have 3 that visit regularly each night), raccoons, opossums, and the rare Ring-tailed cats. As I write this there are two beautiful bright yellow American Finches, a bright red male Cardinal, a Tufted Titmouse, and a couple of sparrows. During the summer months this same nature cam captures the antics of the hummingbirds and other daytime visitors.

As mankind encroaches upon the habitat of our natural neighbors, it becomes increasingly more important that we act as good neighbors ourselves by learning something about them. Watching them is a good place to start. I can assure you that they are watching us!

WARNING!

Nature cams are addictive. Once yours is up and running you will find yourself pausing frequently during your busy work day to glance at the screen. When you do, your heart rate will slow, your breathing will even out, and you will return to your task more relaxed. If you are currently addicted to adrenalin and high pressure situations, this feeling that “all is well with the world” may be uncomfortable at first, but who knows? You may just come to love it!

If you, like many others, decide to set up your own nature cam, please share it with the world. A lot of people who may not be fortunate enough to have a back yard like yours will thank you. On the other hand, if you do not have a place for a nature cam in your yard, feel free to use mine. That’s what it’s there for.
